Carers Support

Are you a carer?

If you look after a relative, partner or friend of any age, who needs help due to a physical or mental illness or disability, frailty or an addiction, then you are a carer. The care you provide is unpaid and:

  • you may be new to caring or have been caring for many years. You may have taken on a caring role gradually or become a carer overnight (for example, due to a relative’s hospital admission);
  • the care you provide may involve: practical help (such as household chores, shopping, taking to and from appointments) or personal care (helping with medication or bathing) or supervision (at meal times and around the home) or emotional support (listening and talking) ;
  • you may live with the person you care for, or you may be travelling a long distance from your own home to look after someone, for example, an elderly relative.

There are around 30,000 unpaid carers in Bolton. In every GP practice, 1 in 10 people will be an unpaid carer. It is important that these carers are supported to continue their caring role.

Pleaseinform us if you are a carer and you will receive information on the FREE support and advice available to you in Bolton.

Caring for a family member can be very rewarding and satisfying.  At times though, it can be exhausting and stressful. Many carers have little time to themselves. Carers are therefore prone to poor health, which can become worse due to lack of time available to see a GP or Pharmacist.

Our practice offers carers an Annual Health & Wellbeing check.

Please contact reception for more information on how to book an appointment for your free carers health & well being check.

Carers event Feedback at Dr Earnshaw & Partners

Bolton carers support is extremely pleased to have worked alongside Dr Earnshaw's practice to offer more support to those carers within the practice.

The event was well attended and carers appeared to be very keen to discuss their caring role and related issues. The carers in the main did not know about Bolton Carers Support and were interested in hearing more about what services are available. All carers registered on the day have been posted an information pack from bolton carers support. Bolton Carers Support would be very happy to support any future events held at the practice.

Thanks to all staff involved.

"Great to hear about the success of the carers drop-in at Dr Earnshaws' practice during carers week." Kevin Durkin, Carers strategy Development Officer, Bolton Council
